In addition to repertoire and achievements, we are particularly interested in the cultural background and the environment of the choir.

Video and audio material

We require 20-30 minutes of audio and video recordings that are no more than two years old. This must include at least 10 minutes of unedited recordings from a rehearsal or concert. A mobile phone recording is sufficient. CDs can be sent to the festival's postal address.

Now we have received a lot of information about your choir, but we still know little about how you would like to present yourselves to the audience. All invited choirs will sing in two themed concerts during the festival, each lasting 25 minutes. The pieces for all other performances may be taken from these two programmes. To help us put together the best possible programme for you, please tick the boxes that apply to your repertoire and your style of performing.

Yodelling

Yodelling is a tradition in Switzerland. This is also the case in many other cultures. We have at least one yodelling song from our country of origin in our programme.

Country focus

We will present music from different regions in our home country and give the audience information about the pieces. This can include translations of texts, explanations about customs, traditional instrument or dances. We'd also teach them a short melody or phrase in our language. This event will take about one hour.

Workshop

We will conduct a workshop (about one hour long) with music from our home country. The participants will get the chance to sing with us and to get to know us, our music and our culture. These «meet - a - choir - workshops» will all take place aboard the choir ship driving on the rhine river and are targeted at participants from age 12 upwards.

Formation

We like singing in different places around the room. If fitting, we are ready to sing some pieces from our programme from within the audience, around the audience, as a procession or from the balconies.

We don't like it if the audience claps after each piece. We therefore try to connect as many pieces together as possible and create musical transitions.

Openness to new stuff

We are playful and like to try new stuff. The festival can present us with a proposal for a new kind of concert. Examples would be the audience taking an active role in picking the next piece, having everybody dance together, the concert taking the audience through a museum, a candle-lit performance or somehting completely different.

Common pieces

In the concerts, there are mandatory pieces, which are sung by all choirs together. There will be one choreographed piece (intermediate difficulty, about 3 minutes long), 1-2 simple, short pieces (possibly with improvisation) and the catchy festival song. But there is always the possibility of performing more pieces together.

Multiple common pieces

In addition to the compulsory pieces, we would like to sing other pieces together with other choirs. We would prepare these pieces at home and rehearse them briefly together at the festival. These could be folk songs or other exciting pieces. We would select suitable pieces together with the other conductors.

Folk song exchange

In addition to the mandatory pieces, we would like to exchange a folk song with a partner choir. We give them a folk song from our culture and get one from their culture back. We will learn both pieces back home and present them together with the partner choir at the festival.

In addition to the mandatory pieces, we can learn one additional piece with a partner choir. We would learn this piece back home and present it with one or more partner choirs at the festival. This could be a folk song, but also any other piece that all involved parties like.

Last questions

Thursday morning

On Thursday morning of the festival, there are different opportunities to perform, possibly together with others. In order to place your choir at the most fitting place, please check ALL possibilites you could manage:

We will provide the musical framework for a church service with 3 to 6 sacred or secular pieces or folk songs.

We will accompany a choir picnic musically. The audience will picnic in the park and we will provide entertainment with about 2x15 minutes jolly choir music in an open-air pavillon.

We perform at a matinee with local choirs as a guest choir. We bring with us a simple folk song that we sing together with the local choirs and present a few other pieces from our repertoire.
